Hallo Gernot,

ZitatPhellinopsis differs from Phellinus s. str. by its hymenial setae arising from tramal hyphae, while the setae in Phellinus s. str. arise from subhymenial hyphae. In addition, spores in Phellinopsis are hyaline, becoming pale yellowish with age, but they are consistently hyaline in Phellinus s. str.
Phylogenetic studies demonstrated that Phellinus con- chatus is not closely related to Phellinus s. str. (Wagner and Fischer 2001), and P. conchatus and P. occidentalis formed a separate clade (Wagner and Fischer 2002a). I have studied the type specimen of P. occidentalis, and its spores are ellipsoid and hyaline, becoming pale yellowish with age, and its setae arise from tramal hyphae. It shares the key characters with P. conchatus. Because of their similar morphological characters which are distinct from Phellinus s. str. and further support from molecular sequence data, I propose a new genus to accommodate these species and propose new combinations.
